When I was hiking last week, I was thinking about what things I currently love that I wanted to share with you – because maybe you would love them too.

LMNT electrolyte drink mix immediately came to mind. Here’s why:

When I was pregnant with my daughter I got really sick and ended up in the ER. Among other things, I was told I was dehydrated from the sickness and should drink Gatorade. I know enough about nutrition, and enough about how little doctors learn about nutrition in medical school, to know that Gatorade was not a good solution.

I turned to coconut water, which I know is a good natural source of electrolytes that I was comfortable drinking while pregnant. But, I hated how much sugar was in all the brands I could find.

I was on the hunt for a low-sugar, natural electrolyte option when I learned about LMNT from Kelly Leveque. I like the short ingredient list and the brand’s commitment to scientific reasons for choosing each. I’m not a huge fan of “natural flavors,” which are often anything but. And stevia leaf is not my favorite flavor, but I do like how LMNT tastes and enjoy one every so often when I know my electrolytes are depleted (e.g., on hot days, after a particularly sweaty workout).

Which leads me to why we’re really here today… I love an adult beverage after a challenging hike. Recently, I’ve been playing around with adding lime flavored sparkling water to my margaritas to create a lighter flavor. I take my margarita with salt, but my bartender (aka husband) does not, so I’ve been adding freshly ground pink Himalayan salt to mine.

Then, it dawned on me. LMNT is all about replenishing salt, so their mixes are salty. One flavor is “Citrus Salt.” Omg – I could make an electrolyte margarita! So I did, and it’s de-lish.

If you love a salty marg, order LMNT and mix one of these up for a refreshing new take on an old favorite. Cheers!
