How I Keep My Little Kids Busy, and Screen-free, on Long Flights
As I pack for our next trip, I thought I’d share what has had the biggest bang for the buck when it comes to entertaining my kids on long flights (besides the obvious: snacks and visits to the bathroom, because who doesn’t love an airplane bathroom?). All are screen-free, tested and highly recommended by yours truly.
5 Clean Beauty Essentials
I’m sure I’m not the first to tell you that what you put ON your body is just as important as what you put IN your body when it comes to optimizing your hormone health. If minimizing your exposure to toxins is on your list of things to do, but overhauling your whole beauty routine feels overwhelming, I see you.
As with most things health-related, it’s good to start small. Make a few changes to your routine and when they begin to be your new habits, add a few more. Bit by bit.
You can use this list as your starting point.
5 Products for Good Sleep Hygiene
When you are ready to take your sleep hygiene to the next level, here are a few of my favorite tried and true products that help me get a good night of zzz’s.
Summer Reading List 2023
Summer is officially here. If you haven’t yet packed your bags and skipped town, I hope you have plans to do so soon. But, even if you won’t find yourself on a beach in the upcoming days, summer is the best time to line up a list of good reads and let your mind travel through space and time. And, let’s not forget that reading is a great stress-reliever and can be a key part of a successful bedtime routine and a good night’s sleep.
Guys Gift Guide
You hear it all the time. It’s really hard to buy gifts for the guys in our lives. My husband is definitely one who falls into the “Extremely Difficult to Shop For” category. He’s particular, has strong opinions, and he has good taste. With Father’s Day, graduations and lots of anniversaries upon us, I want to share some of the gifts I’ve given Sam that have been big hits, and one that I can’t wait to give him.
How to Eat for Healthy Hormones
There are key principles that apply to all of us when we consider what we eat through the lens of hormonal health. Your body needs certain types of fuel to produce hormones, and other types to support clearing hormones once their jobs are complete.
My guide, How to Eat for Healthy Hormones, will teach you the top 3 things you need to know when eating for healthy hormones.
Clean Eating Principles
Clean eating…it sounds so nebulous. Subjective, even. That's because it is.
Every BODY is unique. That’s why one specific way of eating works wonders for one person, but makes another feel sick. So, how on Earth are you supposed to know what to eat?
Well, there is good news. Although we are all different, and we need to be detectives of our own bodies to figure out what foods and eating habits make us feel our best, there are a few clean eating principles that apply to everyone.
Back Body Stretch
From your calves to the back of your neck, stretch and release your whole back body in this short stretch sequence.
Feels great post-workout or after a long day.
Have a yoga block or thick book handy.
Front Body Stretch
This short and sweet stretch sequence focuses on releasing the front body - primarily chest and hip flexors - where so many of us hold so much tension. Pop on this video after your workout, or my favorite, right before bed. I always sleep better when I stretch and release tension from my body before I lie down. Do you? Have you tried?
15-minute Abs workout
On an ideal day, I do a 30-45 minute full body workout, but let’s face it. Not every day is ideal. And how is it that I used to drive 15 minutes to get to my favorite studio to take a 60-minute class, then drive home? It feels almost impossible to have that much time to work out anymore.
On the days when you just don’t have time to squeeze in a full body workout, or you just prefer to focus on one specific area, try this 15-minute Abs workout.
Instead of “you need to reduce your stress,” try this
How many times have you heard, or thought to yourself, “You need to reduce your stress”?? Yeah, okay, but that’s like being told “Here are the keys to the 747. Good luck!” I mean, what?? How?? It’s too nebulous, too vague. Here’s what you can do instead. And it’s super easy.
Electrolyte Margarita
When I was hiking last week, I was thinking about margaritas. Yup. And I had an epiphany.
Exercise for Eye Health
My husband and I went to the ophthalmologist today for eye exams for the first time in longer than I’d like to admit. What I thought would be a pretty general, if not downright uninteresting, appointment ended up being very eye-opening (couldn’t resist the pun).
Chest Opener Stretch
This stretch is a total overachiever. It not only releases tension across your chest, neck and shoulders, it also improves your posture. But perhaps even more importantly, it opens you emotionally.
Banana Zucchini Protein Muffins
Protein is critical at every meal. I love baking and wanted to try my new protein powder in muffins. So, I played “test kitchen” and I am so happy with how these came out!
Holiday Nutnog
Can non-alcoholic, dairy-free, egg-free “eggnog” actually be good? Yes! It’s got the creaminess of cashew milk that I love, plus all the best holiday spices to make it feel like a special treat.
A Nutrition Label for Your Breastmilk
I currently have a 2-month old who I am exclusively breastfeeding. I am familiar with many of the benefits of breastfeeding including improving immunity, easy digestion and optimal nutrient profile. But, what exactly is the nutrient profile of my milk? Is my baby getting enough calories, protein, fat and carbohydrates? If not, can I change my diet to give her what she needs?
Homemade Cashew Milk
I was an almond milk loyalist for a while, but after my husband got a kidney stone (seriously – do ANYTHING and EVERYTHING you can to avoid getting one), he needed to drastically reduce foods high in oxalates – almonds being on the top of the list. So, we tried cashew milk and were instantly hooked.
Crunchy Kale and Quinoa Salad
For those nights when I just want something to come together quickly, and I want it to be healthy and nourishing, this Crunchy Kale & Quinoa salad has become a go-to. I love that it contains dark, leafy greens, healthy fats, crunch, a tiny bit of sweet and a complete protein. A complete protein? What’s that?
Have You Tried Herbal Coffee?
I am a non-coffee drinking coffee lover. My husband makes coffee every morning, and sometimes I grab his mug just so I can sit and smell it for a moment. The aroma alone makes me happy. I didn’t quit coffee willingly. Quite the opposite in fact.
