Protein Herbal Coffee
A high protein start to the morning, without the caffeine
I stopped drinking coffee in 2009. Not because I wanted to. Because I was trying to figure out what was causing my daily stomach upset.
Turns out I don’t think it was the coffee. But coffee was SO HARD to give up, that I didn’t want to go back.
So, that’s how I turned into a coffee-loving non-coffee drinker.
I still love the smell of it. And the ritual of it.
And since I’m a perimenopausal midlife woman, I am also trying to start my days with about 30 grams of protein.
Luckily, this little recipe right here gets me pretty close to that goal and gives me the yummy coffee-in-the-morning ritual I still love all these years later.
Pair this drink with a hard-boiled egg or some yogurt with berries and your day is off to a high protein start.
This recipe is for my friends who:
Don’t drink coffee or caffeine
Don’t have a big appetite in the morning
Want to keep their coffee sacred and still get their protein in in the morning
Oh, and it helps that this tastes like a coffee milkshake.
It’s soooo good.
This recipe makes one serving, so double it if you’re feeling nice enough to make one for your partner. Enjoy in the morning, or as a mid-morning or afternoon snack.

Ingredients
1 C homemade cashew milk (No really, it has to be homemade. This recipe with store-bought milk is not good. But, don’t worry, my homemade cashew milk recipe couldn’t be easier.)
1 scoop of Be Well By Kelly Grass Fed Beef Chocolate Protein Powder (use this link and promo code: BELONG to save 15% on your first purchase)
1 tsp Dandy Blend (available on Amazon)
1 tsp acacia fiber (optional) (available on Amazon)
1 Tbsp MCT oil (optional) (available on Amazon)
Instructions
Add the cashew milk, protein powder and Dandy Blend to a small blender. (I use my Nutribullet for this.)
Add the optional ingredients if you’d like.
Blend well.
Enjoy as is, heat it up for a warm beverage, or pour over ice (my favorite).
Note: If you are enjoying this drink cold, the acacia fiber may bind and form small globules. Don’t be alarmed, they are just little nuggets of fiber.
